Lamine Yamal, the Barcelona forward and Spanish international, told the public broadcaster RTVE on Thursday that Spain's aim is to win the Nations League. The winger made the comments while the Spanish squad were carrying out their training in the Madrid suburb of Las Rozas.
Spain open the new edition of the Nations League with a trip to London to face England, with a match against Croatia in Seville scheduled for Tuesday. They will also face the Czech Republic. Spain won the competition in 2023, having lost the final in 2025.
Yamah won the World Cup with Spain two months ago, beating Argentina 1-0. He recalled that final, in which Spain faced Argentina and Lionel Messi, with the reception the team received after winning the title remaining in his memory. He highlighted Ferran's goal at the end as the moment he remembers most, having given the replica trophy he received after winning the championship to his mother to keep at home.
Spain had previously won the European Championship, with Yamal reaching the trophy as European champions in 2024. At club level, he has won the Spanish league with Barcelona over the past two seasons, while Barcelona were denied the Champions League title last season, which was won by PSG. Yam has made 159 appearances for Barcelona, with 57 goals and 58 assists.
Yam said that his role model was Neymar. Several Spanish players have been nominated for the Ballon d'Or, the award for the best footballer in 2026.
