Leading music industry bodies presented two labels for music created by generative artificial intelligence on Friday, with the aim that streaming platforms would adopt them, as reported by Index.hr.
The initiative is led by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and the US RIAA, with the initiative supported by organisations behind the Grammy awards and several independent music associations.
The first label, 'generated by artificial intelligence', would apply to songs in which AI created all or most of the creative elements. This includes music generated solely from text prompts, as well as songs in which the main vocal performance or a significant instrumental part was produced by AI.
The second label, 'with the assistance of AI', is intended for songs with significant human contribution in which AI was used for specific elements. The condition is that the main instrumental parts and all vocals are performed by humans.
The proposers state that they will work with streaming services, distributors, and regulatory bodies on the implementation of the classification system.
Among major music platforms, only Deezer currently systematically labels music generated by artificial intelligence. Spotify introduced the 'Verified by Spotify' label in April, which indicates based on several criteria that the performer is likely human rather than an AI avatar.
