The delivery platform Wolt has introduced mandatory age verification for users in Croatia who order alcoholic and energy drinks via the app or website. This changes the way age verification is conducted for products with an age limit of 18.
Instead of the previous simple checkbox confirmation, users must now verify their age by linking to the state mGračani system. The company explained that the change was introduced to align operations with new legal regulations in Croatia.
The verification process is designed so that it does not allow access to other personal data of the user. The platform receives only information on whether the person meets the age requirement, without access to other personal data.
The verification takes place at the end of the order, before the user confirms the purchase. The user must select the 'Verify your age' option, after which the mGračani application opens. If the user is ordering via a computer, a QR code will be displayed on the screen to be scanned with a mobile phone, while those ordering via the Wolt mobile app are given the option to directly open the mGračani application.
After logging in with the appropriate credentials and approving the verification request, the system provides confirmation that the user meets the age requirement. The user is then returned to the cart and can proceed with payment.
Users who do not have the mGračani application or fail to verify their age will not be able to complete an order that includes alcoholic or energy drinks, or e-cigarettes. The verification requires Croatian citizenship and a personal identification number (OIB).
In case of technical difficulties, users are advised to check that they have the latest versions of the mGračani and Wolt applications installed.
