Two US envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The diplomatic exchange followed as both sides in the conflict intensified their attacks, further complicating the security situation on the ground. Although the talks took place on Saturday, plans for the next steps are already directed towards the next phase in the diplomatic process.
At the same time, the US envoys plan to visit Kyiv on Sunday, indicating a continuity of efforts to find a solution and stabilise the situation. These steps come as slow progress is recorded for the Russian army in most areas, despite the heavy losses it is suffering. Although the advance is slow, the Russian army continues to control around one fifth of Ukrainian territory, the result of an action started in 2022.
In addition, the Russian and Ukrainian sides are intensifying their air attacks, further complicating the situation on the ground. Ukraine is facing difficulties in defending against ballistic missiles, primarily due to a lack of interceptors. In this context, Ukraine is directing its attacks at Russian economic targets, primarily oil installations, in response to intensified attacks. These actions aim to reduce pressure on their own forces and create pressure on the opposing side, although the situation remains highly tense and dynamic.
