The Wolters brewery in Braunschweig, Germany, is closing its doors after almost four centuries of operation. The company, founded in 1627, marks the end of one of the longest-standing brewing traditions in the region.
The main reason for the closure is a sharp decline in beer sales. Demand for the company’s products has dropped significantly, rendering the business unviable despite its long-standing presence in the market.
In addition to the drop in sales, a key factor was the unsuccessful search for an investor. Attempts to find an investor to take over or recapitalise the brewery were unsuccessful, making the closure inevitable.
Some 90 employees have already been informed of the closure decision. Staff have received timely notice of the plant’s fate, and the company is now proceeding with the business closure process.
The closure of the Wolters brewery ends a tradition spanning almost four centuries, from its founding in 1627 to the decision to cease operations.
