The tragedy occurred on the island of Korn on 30 August, with the 19th anniversary of the loss marked on Sunday. During the occasion, high-ranking officials addressed the gathered crowd, paying tribute to the deceased. Melita Mulic laid a wreath on behalf of the President of the Republic, while a representative of the Croatian Parliament did the same. Chief Fire Officer Slavko Tucak also paid tribute to the fallen colleagues.
Among those who lost their lives in the incident, in addition to those who died from injuries, were: Dino Klaric, Ivica Crvelin, Ivan Marinovic, Marko Stancic, Gabrijel Skoric, and Josip, Ante, and Tomislav Crvelin. Their fellow citizens, particularly from Sibenik, Vodice, and Tisno, lost dear ones. The Croatian Fire Association, as the leading body, participated in the remembrance of the fallen colleagues, led by Dino Kozlevc.
The ceremony reminded the public of the gravity of the work performed by firefighters, particularly in difficult conditions such as fighting fires on the island. The Government of Croatia declared 30 August as a day of remembrance for fallen Croatian firefighters, further highlighting the significance of these days for all citizens. This day, therefore, is not only a commemoration but also a reminder of the sacrifices made by firefighters in protecting the community.
