CE-ZA-R is withdrawing from the consortium selected for the remediation of waste in Gospić, C.I.O.S. Group announced. The decision was made after CE-ZA-R came under investigation in connection with allegations of mishandling waste at a site in Benkovac.
C.I.O.S. Group stated that the company is withdrawing so that its participation does not delay the contracting process, allowing other members of the consortium to continue the procedure. In a statement, they said: 'We do not want CE-ZA-R's participation to be the reason for any delay in works.'
The company simultaneously denied that CE-ZA-R was responsible for transporting waste to the site of the former PPK Velebić in Gospić. This aims to clearly separate the issue of the investigation from the remediation process, which, they stress, needs to be started as soon as possible.
CE-ZA-R was the lead company in the consortium selected for the removal of approximately 4,500 tons of waste with hazardous properties. In that consortium, alongside CE-ZA-R, are C.I.A.K., Saubermacher-TS, Kemis-Term, and Kemop.
Following the expansion of the investigation, the minister, Marija Vučković, previously announced that the contracting process would be reviewed in light of the new circumstances. The withdrawal of CE-ZA-R from the consortium thus raises questions about the further course of the contracting process and the timeline for the start of waste removal works.
