The scientific council, headed by Rector Stjepan Lakušić, has completed the preparation of an analytical document submitted to the government. The meeting, which lasted from 15:00 to 18:00, focused on the analysis of the remediation plan for the site in Gospić, with all prepared materials assessed over a two-day period. The aim is to find a safe and effective solution for the waste, the total quantity of which is estimated at 32,000 to 33,000 tons. This mass includes soil, stone material, and plastic, with estimates based on detailed samples.

The remediation of the waste involves four different methods, two of which have been identified as the most practical for implementation. The first option involves the removal of waste from Croatia, where thermal treatment would take place. This process requires the waste to be packed in sealed containers, with transport to be carried out by road, rail, or sea. The implementation of this option requires the engagement of companies holding the appropriate permits, with European companies already showing interest in the project.

The second option, proposed for the location in Gospić, involves work on closed platforms. This method, which is the shortest in terms of time, involves the sorting of waste at the site, followed by its relocation. Although the technical options have been defined, the final decision on the selection of a specific remediation method has not yet been made, leaving room for further consideration of all available variants before final implementation.
