Significant strengthening of the jugo (southerly wind) has been forecast for the island of Brač, accompanied by the possibility of thunderstorms. The meteorological conditions expected in the coming period have led to an increased risk of fire in open areas, prompting emergency measures by the relevant authorities.
The Fire Department (Vatrogasno operativno područje) has announced that all available fire brigades have been placed on high alert. The aim of this measure is to ensure readiness for immediate action in the event of a fire, given that the forecasted conditions involve strong winds and dry vegetation, which could cause fires to spread rapidly.
Experts note that the incoming storm may not completely engulf the island of Brač, but will affect it partially. Nevertheless, the risk of fire remains high, and fire services are urging residents and visitors to exercise extra caution and behave responsibly to minimise the risk of uncontrolled fires.
The fire service has appealed for responsible behaviour from all participants in traffic and those spending time outdoors. The emphasis is placed on the collective effort to protect people, nature, and property, with a call to preserve Brač during this period of heightened fire risk.
