Valentina, a female firefighter from Zlatar, is currently on the annual women's fire brigade deployment on the island of Brač. By participating in this event, which began last Thursday, she is part of a larger group of colleagues from various parts of Croatia. These operations are carried out during the summer fire season as part of the regular activities of the fire service.
The main objective of the gathering is to ensure a high level of readiness for interventions during the period of highest fire risk. Participants undergo a series of specific fire drills designed to refine the key knowledge and skills required for effective fire fighting. In addition to technical training, the activities allow for the exchange of experience with firefighters from other stations, thereby further strengthening cooperation within the profession.
This model of mobilisation is part of a broader support system in which firefighters from the continental part of Croatia deploy to the Adriatic region. Their presence and work contribute to supporting local stations on the islands and the coast. The primary task of these joint forces is to protect people, property, and the environment from the devastating effects of summer fires.
The volunteer fire brigade (DVD) of Zlatar, of which Valentina is a member, has publicly expressed its support for her. The station wished her well in her time on Brač and highlighted the importance of gaining new experience through the drills. Alongside professional development, the DVD expressed a hope for a minimal number of actual interventions, emphasising the priorities of safety and prevention.
