Today, which in Croatia marks Victory and Gratitude Day and Croatian Defenders' Day, also marks the 31st anniversary of the Operation Storm. The anniversaries were marked with ceremony throughout the area of Gorski Kotar, where citizens and representatives of institutions paid tribute to all participants and victims of the Homeland War.
At the centre of Delnice, a religious service was held in the church of St John the Baptist. During the mass for the fallen and missing Croatian defenders, the assembled faithful and veterans prayed for the souls of those who had given their lives in defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state.
Following the religious service, remembrance of the fallen defenders continued at the local cemetery in Delnice. Representatives of the local community, veterans' associations and citizens laid flowers in front of the monuments to the fallen. In silence and with respect, they paid tribute to those who did not live to see a peaceful time.
