Works on the construction of a new roundabout at the eastern entrance to Kraljevica are expected to begin in early 2027, with the investment valued at nearly two million euros. The announcement was made by Kraljevica Mayor Dalibor Čandrlić following a meeting with the director and technical team of Hrvatske ceste (Croatian Roads).
This is a project that has been in preparation for several years. Its realisation has been preceded by numerous meetings and coordination efforts, the preparation of technical documentation, the resolution of property rights issues, and the obtaining of necessary consents and permits. A particular challenge, it was noted, was securing the financial funds for this investment.
The new roundabout is intended to enable safer and higher-quality traffic flow at the city entrance, and additionally create preconditions for the further development of the economic and residential zone. This, according to announcements, opens up space for the expansion of business and residential facilities in that part of Kraljevica.
During 2027, significant works are also planned on the road towards Krk. In the third quarter of 2027, the start of the reconstruction of the existing roundabout towards Krk is expected, which is to be removed. On the main road, the construction of two new roundabouts is envisaged, and as part of this measure, the construction of additional traffic lanes, junctions and slip roads towards Bobuše and Ulica Prvog maja is planned.
This measure is expected to significantly improve the traffic connectivity of Šmrika and facilitate daily travel for its residents. Overall, the announced works cover several key traffic points in the vicinity of Kraljevica, and their realisation depends on further steps in the implementation of the already prepared documentation.
