Hrvatske vode (Croatian Waters) has secured a total of €500,000 in 2026 for the continuation of the sewage network construction in Novakovc. Upon completion of the works, this will enable 148 households to connect to the public drainage system. This is one of the infrastructure projects that were the focus of today’s site visit in the municipality of Jalžabet.

As highlighted by Dr Milan Rezo, director of the Water Management Department for the Mura and Upper Drava at Hrvatske vode, €200,000 was initially secured for the works in Novakovc, and works worth approximately €180,000 have been carried out to date. The total investment by Hrvatske vode in the continuation of the project during 2026 has been increased to €500,000, meaning an additional €300,000 has been secured.

The works include the construction of approximately two kilometres of gravity and one kilometre of pressurised sewage pipeline, totalling three kilometres of new sewage network. Novakovc is the last settlement in the municipality without a built sewage network, with only a smaller part of Kaštelanec remaining, where the construction of a sewage network is also planned. After that, coverage of the area will exceed 95 per cent. Hrvatske vode participates in the financing of the project with 80 per cent of the required funds, while the remaining 20 per cent is provided by the municipality.

In Kaštelanec, works on the remediation of a landslide are being completed in parallel. This is one of five such interventions being carried out by the County Road Administration in Varaždin County. In addition to Kaštelanec, works are being carried out on landslides in Čanjev, Miklina Kapela in the municipality of Cestica, Ledinec, and Hercegi in the city of Lepoglava. The landslides are being remediated in cooperation with Hrvatske vode, with costs financed in equal proportions, i.e. in a 50:50 ratio.

The works were inspected by Anđelko Stričak, the county prefect of Varaždin County, Krunoslav Lukačić, president of the County Assembly, Rajko Solar, mayor of the Jalžabet municipality, Dr Milan Rezo, Tomislav Osonjački, director of the County Road Administration, Tomica Cukor, manager of the Varaždin Forestry, and Jerko Bašić, head of the Water Management Branch for the Plitvica – Bednja small catchment area.
