Krapina-Zagor County has declared 26 August a day of mourning following a tragic incident in Sveti Križ Začretje in which two children lost their lives. The decision by the county authorities pays tribute to the deceased minors and expresses solidarity with the families who have suffered an irreparable loss.
The observance of the Day of Mourning involves strict protocols concerning public space and institutions across the county. Flags will be lowered to half-mast on all county administrative bodies. This serves to visually highlight the collective grief and respect for the victims of the accident.
This protocol extends to the local level, where flags will be lowered to half-mast on the buildings of local and regional self-government units. This ensures a uniform approach to mourning across all administrative levels within Krapina-Zagor County, regardless of the size or status of the individual unit.
The obligation to lower flags to half-mast also applies to companies and institutions in which the County is the owner or founder. This aims to achieve the widest possible reach for the symbol of mourning, including the private sector and public institutions operating under the auspices of the county authority.
Legal entities conducting television and radio activities within the area of Krapina-Zagor County are also subject to specific obligations regarding the Day of Mourning. Media outlets are required to adjust their programme content and reporting style to respect the moment of national and local mourning.
