The Krapina-Zagorje Police Administration will mark National Road Safety Day, held on 21 October, with a series of preventive activities aimed at raising awareness of the importance of responsible and safe participation in traffic.

The commemoration will include the "Cycling Classroom" preventive activity in Donja Stubica, where an educational lecture for children will be held. The focus will be on safe cycling, the use of protective equipment and reflective markings, and knowledge of traffic rules.

In Bedekovčina, in cooperation with the 'Zagor' Association Network, an educational lecture and the "Zero Promille" preventive activities will be held for students in the final years of secondary school. Throughout the year, police officers have conducted educational projects in cooperation with kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, driving schools, and other institutions and partners.

During the commemoration, police officers will also monitor road users to check compliance with traffic regulations. Drivers who demonstrate responsible participation in traffic through their behaviour will be presented with a commemorative gift.

According to data for the first nine months of 2026, 668 traffic accidents were recorded in the area of the Krapina-Zagorje Police Administration. In these accidents, eight people were killed, 56 people sustained serious, and 216 sustained minor injuries. In the same period, police officers established 19,851 traffic offences.

Among the established offences were 10,115 speeding offences, 782 offences for driving under the influence of alcohol, 2,475 offences for not using a seatbelt, and 649 offences for improper use of a mobile phone while driving.

Police advise drivers to adjust their speed to road conditions, respect speed limits, and take into account the state of the carriageway, weather conditions, and traffic density. They also advise against driving under the influence of alcohol, to always use a seatbelt, and to ensure that all passengers are buckled up and children are properly secured in appropriate child safety seats.

Drivers are also recommended not to use a mobile phone while driving and to pay special attention to children, pedestrians, and cyclists. They should approach pedestrian crossings with caution, respect right of way, and adjust their driving to traffic conditions.
