A lecture on children's road safety was held at the Jože Horvat Primary School in Kotorib. The education was held on 8 October at the request of the school coordinator for the safety of students in traffic, Jelena Tuksar, with the lecture led by police officers from the Prepol Police Station.

The lecture was attended by 24 fifth-grade students, who are participating in the bicycle training programme during the 2026/2027 school year. Police officers explained the most important traffic rules, with special emphasis on cycling and the use of electric scooters.

Students were able to learn how to take the cycling test and obtain the certificate of competence for cycling issued by the Croatian Automobile Club. The police officers also explained the legal obligations and age limits for riding bicycles and personal mobility devices, such as electric scooters and monowheels.

They specifically highlighted the importance of wearing a helmet and checking the condition of brakes, lights and bells. Students were also taught how to correctly signal with their hands while cycling.

It was explained what this means in practice: children who have reached the age of nine, are trained at school and have the appropriate certificate, may participate independently in traffic on a bicycle. Children of the same age who do not have this certificate may only ride a bicycle in the presence of a person who has turned 16.

At the end of the lecture, students were given reflective materials by the Međimurje Police. They received reflective strips and educational brochures titled 'Cyclists, Attention' and 'Personal Mobility Device'.

Such preventive measures are part of the continuous cooperation between the police and school coordinators for the safety of children and students in traffic.
