A 30-year-old driver caused two traffic accidents while fleeing from police in Pribislavec, and subsequently fled the scene after the incidents. He was driving without having passed his driving test, and police reported him to the court, which ordered his detention for up to 15 days.
Officers from the Čakovec Traffic Police Station noticed a car with Čakovec registration plates in Pribislavec on Monday, 19 October, at approximately 16:00. The driver was committing multiple traffic offences, so the police attempted to stop him using light and sound signals. The 30-year-old ignored the orders and continued driving, after which the police officers pursued him.
During his escape through the streets of Pribislavec, the driver committed several traffic offences and caused two traffic accidents resulting in material damage. He was driving without a valid driving licence, and the car he fled in was registered to a 13-year-old child. The vehicle was found on Tuesday, 20 October, in the early morning hours, left on a meadow beside the road between Belica and Palovac.
Police checks of the records established that the vehicle's owner was a child. After the scene was examined, a tow service transported the car to the yard of the Međimurje County Police Administration in Čakovec, where it was temporarily seized in the presence of the owner and his parents.
Due to multiple offences under the Road Traffic Safety Act, the 30-year-old was brought before the Misdemeanours Department of the Čakovec Municipal Court with a proposal for indictment. Following an urgent procedure, the duty judge accepted the police proposal and ordered his detention for up to 15 days, after which he was taken to the Varaždin Prison.
Međimurje police emphasise that he is a repeat offender of the most serious traffic offences. He has previously been reported for misdemeanours on multiple occasions due to traffic violations.
