On Saturday, in the early hours, police arrested a 25-year-old who had previously caused a traffic accident. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, around 22:40, in the settlement of Oroslavje, where the young driver was operating a vehicle under the direct influence of alcohol. According to established facts, he had 1.86 per mille of alcohol in his blood, which is significantly above the legally permitted limit.
During the accident, the driver violated several traffic regulations. He drove the vehicle without a valid driving licence, and while driving, he crossed the central road line. At that moment, he collided with another vehicle moving in the opposite direction. In that second vehicle, which sustained the impact, were three passengers: a 29-year-old driver, a 34-year-old woman, and a 13-year-old child. Despite the collision, none of the passengers in the second vehicle suffered serious injuries, although the 34-year-old woman was taken to the local hospital, where minor injuries were identified.
After the collision, the 25-year-old left the scene, thereby complicating the determination of the circumstances and taking responsibility for the resulting situation. The police, however, managed to identify and locate the perpetrator. The 25-year-old was found and arrested on 6 September at 01:25, thus preventing further evasion from the consequences.
In view of the seriousness of the offence, a prosecution was filed against the 25-year-old. The court, after bringing him before a judge, ordered detention for a period of five days. The prescribed penalty is a fine of 3,190 euros, a prison sentence of 30 days, and a protective measure banning the driving of motor vehicles of category B for a period of two years. This case illustrates the strict response of the judiciary towards drivers who, under the influence of alcohol, endanger road safety, particularly when it comes to minor passengers in other vehicles.
