Police officers carried out a traffic check on 1 August at around 22.05 on a section of the D48 state road, near the settlement of Ruhci. During a routine traffic control, a 55-year-old driver operating a private car with Zagreb registration plates was stopped. The check revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and further tests confirmed a high level of intoxication.
It was established that he had 1.71 per mille of alcohol in his blood, which is significantly above the legal limit. Police further determined that the driver did not observe basic road safety rules while driving, specifically that he was not driving in the centre of the marked traffic lane. Such behaviour on the road, combined with a high alcohol concentration, posed a serious threat to the safety of road users.
Given the high level of intoxication, officers immediately removed the driver from traffic. The individual was placed in special rooms at the police station, where he will wait for the effects of the intoxicating substance to wear off so that further proceedings can be conducted. This prevented further driving under the influence and reduced the risk of a potential collision.
A misdemeanour proceedings will follow against the 55-year-old. The driver faces a fine of 1350 euros. In addition to the financial penalty, the court may impose a protective measure banning him from driving motor vehicles for a period of three months. These measures aim to punish the offence and prevent similar actions in the future.
