A traffic accident with material damage occurred in Vladimir Nazor Street in Ivanac on Tuesday, 27 October, at approximately 14.20, Međimurske novine reported.

The accident was caused by a 58-year-old driver who was operating a car under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol level of 2.14 per cent. The man was behind the wheel despite his driving licence having been revoked and withdrawn.

While turning right into a car park, the driver failed to ensure that he could do so without endangering other road users or property. The front left part of his car struck the rear right part of a properly parked truck.

No one was injured in the accident, but material damage was sustained. Police officers detained the driver and brought him to the police station, where he was held until being brought before the court. The vehicle he was driving was temporarily seized.

The following day, he was brought before a judge at the Varaždin Municipal Court, who ordered his detention for a period of up to 15 days. He was subsequently transferred to the Varaždin Prison.

He faces a fine of up to €5,560 or a prison sentence of up to 120 days for the offences committed. He may also be issued a protective measure prohibiting the driving of category B motor vehicles for a period of up to 24 months, and once the offence decision becomes final, six negative offence points will be recorded against him.
