The 24-year-old driver was responsible for two road traffic accidents that occurred within a very short period, both resulting in significant fines and the suspension of his driving licence. According to established facts, the young man caused the first incident at around 7.00 am in Selci Đakovački, striking the vehicle in front of him with the front of his car. The cause of the collision was a lack of distance, specifically an inappropriate following distance maintained by the driver.
After causing the first accident, the driver did not remain at the scene to act in accordance with regulations, but instead fled. While fleeing the scene of the first accident, between Selci Đakovački and Kondrić, a second accident occurred. At that moment, he lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed in a curve, resulting in the car sliding into a drainage ditch. In this second incident, the driver sustained minor injuries.
Osijek police established a blood alcohol concentration of 1.76 per mille following the incident. Based on the reports, the court imposed strict penalties for each offence individually. For causing the first accident, specifically by following too closely, the driver was fined 160 euros. For the second accident, which resulted from speeding and losing control of the vehicle, the fine was 390 euros.
The most severe penalty was related to driving under the influence of alcohol, for which, according to the Osijek police, the driver faces a fine of 1,320 euros. In addition to the financial penalties, the driver was subject to other measures. The first measure was a ban on driving category B motor vehicles for three months, accompanied by a six-point penalty on his licence. The second measure, relating to the more serious offence in the second incident, involves a ban on driving a vehicle for six months, accompanied by three penalty points.
