During the past weekend, a total of 14 road accidents were recorded, of which five involved injured persons and nine involved material damage.
The most common cause of accidents was excessive and inappropriate speed, which led to five road accidents. Failure to yield right of way caused three accidents, while improper overtaking, improper turning, reversing, and improper passing each caused one accident. Other errors by participants led to three accidents.
Alcohol was detected in five participants in the accidents. The highest concentration was recorded in a 24-year-old driver, at 3.41 g/kg.
On Sunday, 4 October 2026, just before 15:00, a road accident occurred in the area between the county road and the access road to the village of Otok, caused by this 24-year-old driver of a car with Čakovec registration plates. He was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and due to excessive speed, he lost control while exiting a bend and drove off the road onto a grassy verge.
The car then returned to the road, but due to skidding, it went completely off the road again, hitting road equipment, specifically a directional bollard. After that, the vehicle continued moving down the embankment, during which it overturned.
The injured driver was taken by ambulance to the County Hospital in Čakovec, where he received medical treatment and was found to have sustained minor injuries in the accident. Following the provision of medical care, he was taken to the police station, where, in accordance with the provisions of the Offences Act, he was placed in a holding cell until the effects of the intoxicant, alcohol, had worn off.
For the offences committed, the 24-year-old was fined 1,710 euros. In addition to the fine, a ban on driving motor vehicles of category B for three months was imposed. Upon the entry into force of the decision on the offence, six negative points will be entered into the driving licence record.
