On Friday, 2 October, three road traffic accidents caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol occurred in the Međimurje region, during the afternoon and evening hours. In the accidents, a motorcyclist and a car driver were injured, and in all three cases, the cause was excessive speed.

The first accident occurred at 17:30 in Železna Gora. A 46-year-old motorcyclist was injured who was driving a motorcycle with Čakovec registration plates under the influence of alcohol at a concentration of 2.61 g/kg. Due to excessive speed, he lost control of the motorcycle and rode out of the roadway, where he hit a directional sign post, and then a concrete drainage culvert. After the impact, the motorcycle overturned, and the driver fell into a roadside ditch. The injured motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to the County Hospital in Čakovec, where he was kept for treatment, and the severity of his injuries will be assessed later.

The second traffic accident occurred at 18:00 on the road between Šenkovec and Brezje. There, a 25-year-old driver was driving a car with Čakovec registration plates under the influence of alcohol at a concentration of 0.81 g/kg. Due to excessive speed, he lost control and the car went out of the roadway, where it hit a directional sign post. In the subsequent movement, the car hit a concrete drainage manhole, after which it overturned on its roof. The injured driver was taken by ambulance to the County Hospital in Čakovec, and the severity of his injuries will also be assessed later.

The third accident occurred on the same day, at 22:20, also on the road between Šenkovac and Brezje. A 27-year-old driver was involved in it, driving a car with Čakovec registration plates under the influence of alcohol at a concentration of 2.16 g/kg. Due to excessive speed, he lost control of the car and drove out of the roadway, where he hit a directional sign post, and then a concrete drainage manhole. The driver was arrested and taken to the police station.

Due to the offenses committed under the Act on Road Traffic Safety, the drivers were issued heavy fines and protective measures banning the driving of motor vehicles of the corresponding categories, while negative offense points were entered into them upon the finality of the decisions on offenses. During the past weekend, several road traffic accidents were recorded in the region, in several of which the drivers were under the influence of alcohol.
