During the past weekend, four road traffic accidents were recorded on the roads of Međimurje County. Of the total number of incidents, three resulted in injured persons, while one case involved only material damage.
The causes of the accidents were various traffic offences. The police established excessive and improper speed in one accident, while two accidents were the result of driving at an improper distance. In one case, the driver made an improper turn, U-turn, or reversed.
Alcohol presence was detected in one participant over the weekend. This concerns a 62-year-old motorcyclist who had a measured alcohol concentration of 1.36 g/kg in his system.
The alcohol-related accident occurred on Sunday, 9 August, shortly after 1 am in Šenkovac. The driver was operating a motorcycle with a Čakovec registration plate and was travelling along the roadway of Braće Radić Street.
According to the stated facts, the driver did not adjust his speed to the persons and road conditions, specifically the bend, nor to the visibility conditions which were poor due to the night. Upon entering the bend, he lost control of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle left the roadway, and the front wheel struck a roadside ditch. After the impact, the vehicle overturned, and the driver fell into the ditch.
