Police officers from the Ivanec Police Station stopped an electric scooter on Monday, 19 October, at approximately 15.40 hours on the Square of the First Croatian University in Lepoglava. The vehicle was being driven by a 16-year-old minor.
During the check, it was determined that the scooter driven by the minor does not fall under personal transport means according to the Road Traffic Safety Act and is not classified into any vehicle category. Precisely because of this classification, the rules applied to conventional transport means in traffic do not apply to it.
The law is clear regarding such vehicles: they are prohibited from moving on traffic surfaces intended for vehicles and pedestrians. In other words, a scooter like the one found in Lepoglava is not allowed on the carriageway or on surfaces designated for pedestrians.
The vehicle was temporarily seized from the 16-year-old in the presence of his parents. A criminal complaint will be filed against the minor with the competent court, whereby the proceedings will continue before the court.
