The City of Lab continues to invest in creating equal educational opportunities for all children in the 2026/27 academic year. Support for pupils with special educational needs has been secured for a total of 22 students with developmental disabilities from the wider Lab area.

Assistance is provided to pupils by 26 assistants. The organisation of their work is tailored to the individual needs of each pupil, in accordance with the degree and type of disability. In two classes, one assistant provides support to two pupils.

Assistants provide daily support to pupils at the Matija Vlačić and 'Ivo Lola Ribar' primary schools, as well as at the 'Liče Faraguna' centre. All assistants participating in the implementation of the project have successfully completed a 250-hour training course via the Croatian Employment Service.

The work of the assistants is funded through the 'Equal social and educational inclusion of pupils with developmental disabilities IV – RAZ IV' project. A total of 729,360.00 euros has been allocated for the implementation of the project from 2024 to 2027. Of this amount, 510,000.00 euros are provided by the European Social Fund Plus, and 109,680.00 euros by the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds.

The City of Lab is contributing to the project with 109,680.00 euros, or 15 per cent of the total value of the project. The Mayor of Lab, Donald Blašković, stated that the aim is for every child in Lab to have the opportunity to learn, develop and participate in school life in line with their abilities and needs.

The 'Equal social and educational inclusion of pupils with developmental disabilities IV – RAZ IV' project is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), the Effective Human Resources 2021–2027 programme, within the framework of the call ESF.2.4.06.06. 'Provision of assistants and specialist communication mediators for pupils with developmental disabilities in primary and secondary education institutions, phase VII'.
