Police officers from the Varaždin Police Directorate have received several reports from citizens who received suspicious emails. In the message, the sender falsely presents themselves as the Ministry of the Interior, aiming to instil fear and panic in the recipient. The aim of this campaign is to manipulate citizens into making monetary transfers or revealing personal data.
In the message content, citizens are informed that legal proceedings have been initiated against them for allegedly possessing child pornography on the internet. They are required to respond immediately to the received notification, with threats that their arrest will follow. Citizens are also warned that a criminal case will be opened if they do not comply with the instructions provided in the fake letter.
The police warn the public that this is a classic phishing campaign. Officers stress that such messages should be deleted immediately and that no response should be made. Any contact with the sender or payment of the requested amounts could lead to further financial losses and compromise personal data.
Victims of this crime are urged to report the incident at the nearest police station. This allows the competent authorities to take timely action and prevent the further spread of this fraud. Citizens are advised to be cautious with unknown messages and never to transfer money to unknown senders claiming to be state officials or institutions.
