Celine Dion surprised fans with a spontaneous street performance in Paris. Following the third concert in the comeback tour, the 58-year-old singer joined the gathered fans outside the hotel, climbed onto the bonnet of a car and sang and danced for the assembled crowd.
All took place after her performance at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre. Footage captured by fans shows Dion sitting on a black vehicle, taking off her shoes and sitting on the bonnet with her legs crossed. As the opening bars of her 1995 hit 'Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore' began, she started to sing and sway to the rhythm of the music. She encouraged the crowd to sing along, and the gathered fans responded with song, capturing every moment.
At one point, the singer stretched out over the bonnet, turning onto her stomach, before laughing and rising again. She continued to dance and clap, and before leaving, she made a heart shape with her hands to the audience. Members of her security detail were by her side throughout. Dion was dressed casually in wide-leg trousers and a bomber jacket, with her hair tied back in a low bun.
At the concert on Saturday, 12 September, Dion broke down in tears as she stepped onto the stage. She was overcome with emotion in the first seconds of the opening song 'On Ne Change Pas', pausing briefly. She wiped away her tears, placed a hand on her chest, and brought her palms together in a gesture of gratitude. She later addressed the audience, speaking of the promise she had made to herself and her fans that she would return.
'Very many of you are here from all over the world', she said during the concert. 'Thank you so much for coming. If you are in Paris for the first time, I hope you will fall in love with it as I have. We are all together at last.' She added: 'I promised that I would return and once again be on stage. And here I am, singing to you and singing for myself, singing to life! Thank you for your support and patience. If I may say so, all that I am is because you loved me.'
In the run-up to the Paris performances, Dion explained in an interview with Harper's BAZAAR that these concerts were an opportunity to thank the public for their loyalty. 'It has been such a long time. I wanted to offer something to show how much I have missed them,' she said. The last full-length concert by Celine Dion was held in March 2020 in New Jersey. The tour was interrupted by the pandemic, and later cancelled due to her health problems.
The singer was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022, a rare and progressive autoimmune neurological disorder that can cause muscle stiffness, mobility issues, painful spasms, and difficulty breathing. For Harper's BAZAAR, she revealed that she had prepared for her return with the help of medication, physiotherapy, vocal therapy, and other forms of treatment and exercise.
