Tereza Kes has celebrated her 88th birthday in the Clinical Hospital in Zagreb's Dubrava, where she is undergoing treatment for heart problems. The singer was hospitalised last week, spending two days in the intensive care unit.
Doctors assessed that her health is improving and transferred her to a general ward. If all goes well, as expected, she will be discharged to home care at the beginning of the week. The singer herself says: 'I am much better!' and 'We are not giving up!'
She marked the birthday in hospital conditions modestly, with a yoghurt to which she made a toast. 'The toast is what matters, not what one drinks to it,' she said. Her friend brought her a fruit cake with strawberries, mint and meringue in the hospital, and the singer immediately asked if her Goga would make the same cake again. When she is released from the hospital, as she announced, she will celebrate the birthday with her closest ones with more substantial food. She is sending many kisses, hugs and joy to everyone.
Kes expressed regret that due to force majeure she could not hold the long-announced concert. She promised that she would make up for it as soon as she fully recovers. This year she set off on a farewell concert tour, and was due to perform for the Zagreb audience in the Lisinski hall this weekend. The concert was postponed due to unexpected cardiac problems and the explicit instructions of the medical team.
