Croatian artist Vlasta Delimar marked her 70th birthday with a new performance in Novigrad. The celebration, rather than a traditional gathering, took the form of a public performance that drew the attention of the local cultural scene.
The performance, titled 'The Dignity of Ageing', took place in the R Gallery. The choice of venue was no accident. The gallery represents the fourth 'meeting' in a series of connected artistic projects, highlighting the continuity and connection of artistic actions in the region.
During the performance, which took place a few days ago, Delimar was almost naked. As the only element of clothing on her body, she wore adult diapers, which became the central visual and symbolic element of the work. This choice of garment is directly linked to the theme of the performance, which addresses the process of ageing and questions of dignity in this stage of life.
The performance was a personal, yet public, act by the artist, exploring her age through body and space. The combination of near-nakedness and functional care products created a striking contrast, prompting reflection on physical changes and societal attitudes towards older people.
