The travelogue "Three Distances" by Dinko Telećan, a book adorned with literary awards, was presented at the "Ivan Goran Kovačić" City Library in Vrbovsko. Dinko Telećan is a Croatian poet, novelist, essayist, translator and travel writer, and the travelogues in this book are linked to Vietnam, South America (Argentina, Chile) and Morocco.
The presentation was organised as part of a project by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia related to creating a reading audience. The meeting with the guest was introduced by Gordana Vučinić, director of the Vrbovsko library, while Marinko Krmpotić, a journalist from Novi list, spoke with the author. The presentation lasted one hour, and a new visit by Telećan was agreed upon as soon as conditions allow.
On the same day, the exhibition "Lyrical-Poetic Journeys" by Croatian painter Velia Krmpotić was opened at the "Janet Majnarich" City Library in Delnice. This is a kind of prize exhibition, as Velia Krmpotić was the winner of last year's group exhibition "Call of the Wild" (Delnice, 2025). Her works "Falcon's Flight" and "Deer" were declared the best by the jury and the public, thereby earning her the right to a solo exhibition organised by the Delnice Branch of the Matica hrvatska (Croatian Cultural Society), the organiser of that art competition. The exhibition will remain open until the end of October.
The exhibition presented works created in recent years: female portraits such as "Redhead in the Garden" and "Leaves in Hair", drawings of animals in motion, including the award-winning "Deer" and "Falcon's Flight", floral and ornamental compositions, and works inspired by literature, such as "Marulić's Judith". Andrej Zbašnik delivered the opening address.
Velia Krmpotić was born in Zagreb and lives and creates in Rijeka. By profession, she is an art teacher, and she works with drawing, watercolour and ink. Even as a high school student, she published illustrations and comics in the magazines Modra lasta, Svijet, Kana and Nada. She has exhibited in New York, Rome, Vienna, Zagreb, Varaždin, Maribor and Pula, and this year in Dubrovnik, Split, Kranj and on Šolta. She is a member of the Istrian branch of the Croatian Society of Fine Arts (HDLU) and has realised around forty solo and group exhibitions.
