An exhibition titled 'Conquest of Military Objects 1991' was officially opened at the Đakovo Museum on Thursday. A large number of visitors attended the opening, which began at 19:00. This timing allowed a wider circle of citizens to engage with historical material related to the defensive efforts in the area during the 1990s.
The exhibition layout presents an overview of key events that took place during the spring, summer, and September of 1991. This chronological and thematic division enables visitors to better understand the complexity of the situation and the steps that preceded the final outcomes. Special attention is given to the display of correspondence with the Đakovo garrison, which further enriches the understanding of historical circumstances.
Documents and letters provide insight into the daily challenges and decisions made at the time, creating a more comprehensive picture of the efforts of the local community. The exhibition highlights events that culminated in the conquest of military objects in September 1991, emphasising the significance of these moments for the final outcome of the conflict. One of the key moments was the establishment of the 122nd Brigade, which had a significant impact on the subsequent course of events.
This brigade, formed in response to the challenges faced by the local community, became a symbol of resistance and determination. Its establishment marked a new step in the organisation of defensive forces, thereby contributing to strengthening resistance and ensuring the safety of the local population. The exhibition 'Conquest of Military Objects 1991' is therefore not only a depiction of historical events, but also a reminder of the importance of preserving memories of difficult, yet victorious, moments. Through detailed documents, photographs, and personal testimonies, visitors have the opportunity to better understand the complexity and significance of these historical moments, and to connect them with contemporary contexts. This approach allows not only the preservation of memory, but also encourages reflection on the importance of historical awareness in modern society.
