The local library is marking this year’s Month of the Book with an exhibition by Ukrainian painter and illustrator Euheniia Bakhtihireva, titled 'InFANtism'. The opening will take place on Thursday, 15 October, at 19:30, in the Teatrin space at the local library.
Euheniia Bakhtihireva, originally from Crimea, has been active on the Ukrainian and international art scene since 2008. Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous exhibitions and art projects, with her works held in private collections in Italy, the United States, Germany, and Croatia. In 2022, she fled from Irpin with her children, finding refuge in Croatia where she has since lived and continued her artistic work.
The exhibition explores through artistic expression how humanity, despite significant technological and civilisational progress, simultaneously demonstrates immaturity in the decisions that shape its future. At the heart of the 'InFANtism' exhibition lies the question of responsibility in contemporary society.
According to the exhibition’s concept, wars, disasters, global epidemics, and social inequality are examples that reveal a deep disparity between human capabilities and the readiness to accept the consequences of their actions. The artist views infantilism not merely as a trait of the individual, but as a broader condition of contemporary society.
Infantism, as described in the exhibition’s concept, manifests as an inability to foresee the long-term consequences of one’s actions, coupled with an avoidance of responsibility and a pursuit of immediate gratification. The opening of the exhibition marks the beginning of this year’s Month of the Book at the local library.
