Works on the memorial park in Senj, located behind the building on the site known as 'Ferein' off the Old Road, are intensifying at the time of this news report. The project is being led by the Uskok Association, which is actively involved in the process of renovating the space. The works, with completion planned for 13 October, are being carried out with the financial support of the City of Senj and the Ministry of Veterans.
The central figure of the memorial park is Zdravko Papundek, a member of the HOS, who died on 13 October 1991 in Bogdanovci. His sacrifice is marked by the fact that at the moment of his death he saved the life of another Croatian defender, Milo Dedaković Jastreba, by shielding him with his own body. This act of courage makes him a central and commemorative figure in the context of the space being developed in his honour.
The process of renovating the space, supported by the local community and state institutions, represents an attempt to shape a place of remembrance for those who contributed to the defence of Croatian independence. Although the works are ongoing, completion is planned for 13 October, which will allow for the ceremonial marking of the memorial park close to the fallen defender's birthday. This project, in addition to marking historical events, also aims to preserve the memory of those who contributed to the defence of Croatian independence.
