At the Dalmatin site, specifically on the platform of the Krka Beelvedere holiday resort, construction is beginning on a monument titled 'The Arrival of the Croats to the Sea'. The project, the funding of which is provided solely by donations, is being carried out with the support of the Croatian Dragon Society. The initiative was created as part of the 1,100th anniversary of Croatia, and its purpose is to mark the historical moment of the settlement of Croats in this area.
The architect Aleksandar Bašić has signed off on the design for the monument, which represents a three-dimensional version of the well-known painting. Although the project was originally submitted to a competition by the Ministry of Culture, it was rejected there, leading to the realisation of the project privately, without direct funding from the state budget. The monument is located on the north side of the motorway, directly opposite the Our Lady of the Road monument, which is situated on the south side. This location, known for the best view on motorways in Europe, is becoming a meeting place for two monument complexes.
The 'Arrival of the Croats to the Sea' monument includes elements that provoke debate on how such monuments fit into contemporary society. Although certain details, such as the orientation of the figures, require further clarification, the project remains a significant cultural monument. Its construction, with the support of the public, demonstrates the importance of preserving and marking historical moments that have shaped Croatian identity.
