The Murter Public Library and Reading Room opened this year's Croatian Book Month with an educational and inspirational workshop dedicated to one of Croatia's most significant inventors and lexicographers. The workshop provided an opportunity to explore the exceptional legacy of Faust Vrančić, while also serving as a reminder of the importance of curiosity, creativity and lifelong learning.

Zdenka Bilušić introduced the young pupils of Murter to his rich body of work. She guided them into the world of a man whose ideas remain a valuable part of Croatian cultural and scientific heritage to this day.

Faust Vrančić was born in 1551 in Šibenik. His work left a significant mark on European science, technology and culture. He was a man of broad interests who engaged in various fields, ranging from language and philosophy to technology and invention.

Among his most famous works is Machinae novae (New Machines), a collection of technical solutions and inventions published at the beginning of the 17th century. In this work, he presented a series of concepts that bear witness to his inventiveness. The parachute drawing, known as Homo volans – "the flying man", stands out in particular.

The workshop at the Murter library thus connected the town's youngest residents with the figure and work of Faust Vrančić, whose ideas remain a valuable part of Croatian cultural and scientific heritage.
