Pleškovec was the host of the 2nd Nordic Walking and Hiking Festival 'Međimurje, I’ve Got This' on Saturday, 17 October. The event was organised by the Međimurje Nordic Walking Club, with support from the local municipality of Sveti Juraj na Bregu and the Međimurje County.
This year’s edition attracted more than 700 participants from six counties: Međimurje, Varaždin, Bjelovar-Bilogora, Koprivnica-Križevci, Primorje-Gorski Kotar, and Zagreb. The previous year’s festival had drawn over 600 participants, meaning this year’s edition saw an increase in attendance.
Attendees were welcomed by the deputy county prefect of Međimurje, Mario Medved, and the mayor of the municipality of Sveti Juraj na Bregu, Anđelko Nagrajš. The president of the Međimurje Nordic Walking Club, Astrid Mudri, and the president of the Croatian Nordic Walking Federation, Krešimir Ritz, also addressed the crowd. The festival was opened by nine-year-old Paulina Plevnjak from Čakovec, the youngest member of the Međimurje Nordic Walking Club. The opening was further enlivened by performances from the 'Seljačka Sloga' cultural arts society from Nedelišće and Mura Krička.
Participants could choose from four routes of varying lengths and difficulty. The 'Vineyard and View' trail was 4 km long, featuring refreshments and wine tasting at the Turk family farm. The 'Forest and Lake' trail, measuring 4.5 km, included a visit to the Succulent Fantasy nursery. The 'St. George' routes, at 7 km, allowed participants to explore local stories and traditions. The 'Matule' routes, at 9 km, led through forested areas with refreshments available at Matule’s farm, offering an introduction to traditional Međimurje culture.
Alongside the walking, visitors were introduced to the produce of local family farms. The event also showcased the craft of weaving corn husk mats, presented by Lončar Lovro, the only potter in the region.
