Mladen Mitić, a master craftsman and prominent figure, has passed away, leaving an indelible mark on Croatian ship modelling and the wider field of technical culture. His death is a significant loss to the community, particularly to the Technical Association of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, with which he shared close collegial and friendly ties.
Mitić made significant contributions to the development of ship modelling in Croatia, particularly through his construction of models of Dubrovnian galleys and galleys. His precision and artistic quality were recognised internationally, as the models he created won the highest world honours, setting high standards in this specific branch of model making.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mitić was dedicated to passing on knowledge, experience, and a love for maritime heritage to younger generations. Through his work with young people at the Nave Dumins Institute and within the framework of the Little Shipyard programme, he acted as a teacher, mentor, and role model for many young modellers, ensuring the continuity of the craft.
