Drniš has lost a prominent musician and craftsman on Saturday, 19 September. Jakov Kević, a well-known musician and blacksmith from Drniš, has died.
Kević was a husband, father and colleague, and he began his career at the former Centre for Culture. Under the auspices of this institution, numerous other institutions operated which later went their separate ways — the Open University, the Library and Radio Drniš. After these contents were separated, Kević continued his work at the Open University in Drniš.
He remained connected to Radio Drniš to this day, as one of its small shareholders. This enduring connection testifies to his dedication to the local community and the institutions that shaped the cultural life of Drniš.
However, music was his greatest love. For more than fifty years he was a member of the Drniš Wind Orchestra, where he played the saxophone. His long-term engagement in the orchestra contributed to the preservation of the city’s musical tradition, and he passed on his love of music to his daughters.
In addition to his musical career, Kević was the last blacksmith in Drniš. In this way, his life and work marked two important aspects of Drniš’s identity — culture and craftsmanship. His passing represents an irreplaceable loss for his family, friends and all who knew him.
