Dr Niko Visković, a family medicine doctor who worked in Dubrovnik for decades, passed away on Monday, 5 October. He was born on 14 October 1950, and was in possession of 43 years of medical service.

He began his professional career at the then HTC Dubrava – Babin Kuk, where he worked as a doctor. He later worked at the Dubrovnik Health Centre, where he retired on the last day of 2021. Colleagues from the Dubrovsk Health Centre bid him farewell on social media with the message: 'Goodbye to you, dear doctor, goodbye to you, dear Mr Niko'.

In October 1991, an improvised wartime ambulatory care unit, Tirena, began to operate, the work of which was organized by Dr Visković within the Crisis Staff of HTC Dubrava-Babin Kuk. The ambulatory was located in the basement, in the staff canteen of the Tirena hotel, and it treated up to 190 patients daily. Up to 10,000 consultations were recorded during its operation. Alongside Dr Visković, Dr. Diana Arapović Slavić, medical student Zaim Čustović, and nurses Silva Mladošić and Marina Gleđ Torić worked in the unit. The ambulatory also managed a ward on the first floor of the hotel with 80 beds. After the war, he continued to work as a family doctor.

Dr Visković was frequently a source for the Dubrovnik Vjesnik. In April 2023, he spoke about self-medication, self-healing through food, and provided useful advice to young people and the elderly. He was an active participant in politics. In the 1993 elections for the Chamber of Counties, he was the lead candidate on the Independent County List in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, and his list received 2,207 votes, or 3.55 percent. In the 2011 parliamentary elections, he was the lead candidate on the Independent List in the X electoral district, and the list received 271 votes, or 0.11 percent. In the local elections of 2025, he was the 11th candidate on the Most list for the Dubrovnik City Council, and was also on the Most party's candidate list for the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Assembly.
