Mate Mišo Kovač died on Saturday, 31 October, aged 86. During the day, the singer felt unwell and was taken to hospital, but he died shortly after returning home.
Ivica Bubalo, a long-time friend and music manager of Mišo Kovač, with whom he had collaborated for 49 years, contacted the Mayor of Split, Tomislav Šuta, following the news of his death. The reason for the contact was the desire to organise a dignified farewell for the singer in Split. Split is set to say goodbye to Mišo Kovač in a special way.
Mišo Kovač was born in Šibenik and will be buried in Zagreb. He is survived by his wife, Lidija, and daughter, Ivana.
The singer’s connection to Split was particularly marked by a concert at Poljud in 1993, where around 40,000 people gathered. The concert was dedicated to Mišo’s late son, Edi, and fallen Croatian defenders.
Many others have also said goodbye to Mišo Kovač. Tereza Kesovija spoke about Mišo Kovač through tears. The lights were turned off at the Gripa stadium, and the hall was filled with the anthem of Jugoplastika, sung by Mišo Kovač. Hajduk also paid tribute to Mišo Kovač.
Blaženko Boban, the County Mayor of Split-Dalmatia, said goodbye to Mišo Kovač in an emotional post.
