Bangor striker Ben Arthurs has completed a three-month suspension for breaching anti-doping rules, thereby enabling his return to the active squad. The British Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) confirmed that the 28-year-old player admitted to using cocaine in a recreational context, which led to a temporary suspension imposed on 7 April.
The case was initiated following the Bangor vs Glentorian Irish Premiership match on 10 March, during which testing was conducted. The result was positive for cocaine, with an independent expert determining that the substance had been used prior to the match day. Glentorian won the match 4-0.
According to the strict rules of UKAD, athletes may qualify for a reduced three-month ban if they demonstrate that the substance was used outside a competitive context and did not affect sporting performance. Arthurs took advantage of this provision, with Bangor suspending him in April while the official investigation was ongoing, without providing further details at the time.
Following the expiration of the ban, Arthurs has already joined the team's training. Manager Lee Feeney confirmed that the striker is available for play, meaning he will be able to feature in the upcoming derby against Cliftonville, which takes place at Clandeboye Park.
This will be the ninth season for Ben Arthurs in a Bangor shirt. The 2026/27 season of the Irish Premiership begins on 15 August, and the return of the experienced striker represents a significant move for the squad ahead of the new competitive cycle.
