Duncan Ferguson's first match in charge of Glentoran against Ballymena United has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, the BBC has reported. The Gles were due to host the Sky Blues at the Oval on Saturday at 15:00 UK time, but the match was called off after a pitch inspection at 12:00.

Ferguson was confirmed as Glentoran's new manager on Monday, meaning his debut on the touchline has been pushed back. He will lead his new side for the first time in an away fixture at Coleraine on Friday, 30 October, at 19:45 GMT, with live coverage on BBC iPlayer.

The decision to postpone was made in the context of adverse weather conditions. A yellow Met Office warning is in force across Northern Ireland from 10:00 UK time on Saturday until 12:00 GMT on Sunday. An orange warning has also been issued for Saturday evening, with strong winds of up to 75 miles per hour expected.

The weather has also disrupted the women's football schedule. The Women's Challenge Cup final between Glentoran and Cliftonville was also postponed on Friday due to the adverse weather warning.

Glentoran will therefore have to wait until the end of October for Ferguson's managerial debut, when his team travel to Coleraine.
