Hvar will host the Spartan World Championship for the third time, taking place from 8 to 11 October. 3,500 competitors from 60 countries will take part, with 75 per cent of participants coming from abroad. The event includes two world championships, with a total prize fund of $100,000. Competitors will face four days of racing.

The event was presented at a press conference, where Hvar’s mayor, Šime Ravlić, and the director of the Hvar Tourist Board, Iva Belaj-Šantić, spoke, alongside operational director of Spartan, Giles Chater, project manager Ivan Zoriš, race director Thomas Blanc, and Bojan Grbić. Grbić is the most successful Croatian Spartan, and winner of the 2024 Beast category, and will also compete in this championship.

The programme begins on Thursday with open training sessions on the 100m course. On Friday, qualifiers for the 100m World Championship will take place, with children’s races by Spartan Kids starting at 16:00, and the opening ceremony and parade of nations taking place at 19:00. On Saturday, the Beast 21K race will begin at 08:00, while the men’s and women’s 100m world championship finals will take place between 16:30 and 18:00. The finals will be broadcast live on SportKlub and the VOYO platform, with international television coverage available in more than 50 countries. On Sunday, the 5km sprint world championship will take place, starting at 09:00, while the start of the Super 10K race is scheduled for 12:30. The races will also be available on the official Spartan YouTube channel.

The Spartan course begins by the sea, climbing towards the fortress, before returning through the town’s streets to the promenade. Competitors face swimming and floating obstacles in the sea, rocky sections along the coast, and the climb to the Hvar Fortress (Tvrđava), also known as Fortica, which has stood above the town for over four centuries. The course descends towards the centre, St. Stephen’s Square, and the Hvar promenade.

The 5km Sprint World Championship includes five kilometres of running and 20 obstacles. The 100m World Championship is the shortest and most dynamic format, with competitors facing a series of obstacles on a 100-metre course. The finals of the 100m World Championship are contested one-on-one. Notable names participating include Mila Stanzani, Leon Kofoed, Tommy Matthews, Valentino De Vanna, and Enzo Deferrari Wilson. H is also hosting a number of recreational runners, with the Super 10K, Beast 21K, and Spartan Kids races.
