The sixth memorial race in memory of Dina Pervan Rabelo will take place at Hidrobaza on 22 November, aiming to raise funds for Pula General Hospital. Participants will be able to run, walk or join children's races, with the programme starting at 9.30am.
The donations collected are earmarked for the Department of Internal Medicine, specifically the Polyclinic and the Pulmonology Department of Pula Hospital. Depending on the amount raised and current needs, the purchase of a Thopaz digital chest drainage system, a high-flow oxygen therapy device and a defibrillator is planned.
The memorial race was launched in memory of Dina Pervan Rabelo, a Pula table tennis player, coach, history and Italian language teacher, and passionate runner. She died at the end of 2020 after a battle with sarcoma, a malignant bone cancer diagnosed in 2017. Her last wish was for family and friends to gather in her name every full moon, and from these gatherings grew an initiative that evolved into a traditional charity event. Since the first edition in 2021, the race has supported numerous individuals, associations and healthcare institutions. Among the previous beneficiaries of the funds raised were Kiara Goršić, the Krijesnica association, the Department of Internal Oncology and Haematology, and the Neonatology Department of Pula General Hospital, as well as the outpatient clinics of the Istria Health Homes in Labin, Pazin and Umag.
Runners will face a 6.4-kilometre course, with official time measurement and prizes for the fastest participants. For those wishing to participate without competitive pressure, a 4.3-kilometre walk is provided. The programme again features a children's race, with sections adapted to age: 250 metres for nursery and pre-school children, 400 metres for pupils from the first to the fourth grade, and 800 metres for pupils from the fifth to the eighth grade of primary school. Children's participation is free, and all young participants will receive this year's race T-shirt and a finisher's medal.
This year's novelty is a team competition on the 6.4-kilometre course. Teams must have at least three members, and the final result is determined by adding the times of the three fastest members. Entries are submitted individually, with the mandatory use of the same team name for all its members.
Entries for running and walking are open until 4 November, with an entry fee of 20 euros. Entries for adult participants will not be possible on the day of the race. Organisers highlight that, thanks to donors and partners, organisational costs are covered separately, so the entire amount of entry fees is directed to charitable purposes. Those who cannot participate in the sporting part of the event can help with a direct donation, and entries for the races and information on donations are available on the website www.hrabragolubica.com.
