A charity run, 'Sign of Health', will take place in Osijek on Sunday, 27 September, on the occasion of the International Day of the Deaf. The week is observed from 21 to 27 September, and the aim of the run is to draw attention to the challenges faced daily by deaf and hard of hearing people.
The run will take place on the Pampas, with the programme starting at 10:00 with a sports day for children with hearing impairments. The official start of the run is scheduled for 11:00, with participants running a 5km course. The route goes from the Pampas shooting range, along a dirt path behind the range, and then along the embankment to the Opus Arena and back.
The minimum entry fee is 10 euros, with organizers noting that higher amounts are welcome. All proceeds will go towards renovating the premises of associations for the deaf, purchasing appropriate sports equipment, and improving training conditions for children and young people with hearing impairments.
Before the race, members of the KIFOS scientific section will conduct a guided warm-up and provide advice on physical activity. Free blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol tests, as well as body composition analysis using a metabolic scale, will be available before and after the race.
Organizers are inviting citizens, recreational runners, athletes, families, and all those with good will to join the race and support this worthy cause. For further information and queries, contact can be made via email at [email protected] and social media.
The organizers of the charity run are the Osijek Deaf Sports Association, the FIZIOS Immunology and Physiology Student Section, the KIFOS Science Student Section, and the Croatian Hypertension League. The non-financial sponsor of the event is the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Croatia, with partners including the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Association of the Osijek-Baranja County and the Osijek Youth Association.
