Club Brugge, managed by Croatian coach Ivan Leko, defeated Inter 4-3 in the second round of the Champions League. The match delivered seven goals, with the absolute standout being 22-year-old German attacker Nicolò Tresoldi, who scored a hat-trick.
The guests took the lead in the 30th minute through a Tresoldi penalty. Lautaro Martínez equalised in the 44th minute following an assist from Federico Dimarco. In the second half, Tresoldi scored again in the 63rd minute, assisted by Carlos Forbs, and in the 74th minute he completed his hat-trick, increasing Brugge's lead to 3-1.
Laut Martínez reduced the deficit to 3-2 in the 81st minute following an assist from Croatian international Petar Sučić, who came on as a substitute. However, Romeo Vermant scored the fourth goal for the visitors in the 87th minute, also assisted by Forbs. Ange-Yoan Bonny sealed the 3-4 result in the third minute of stoppage time following a pass from Aleksandar Stanković.
Inter suffered a second consecutive defeat on the opening day, while Leko's side secured a significant away victory. Italian media highlighted the incredible errors by Inter's defence and goalkeeper, alongside the night of the young attacker from Brugge. The Italian champions analysed the defeat in detail on their official website, praising Leko's tactics and the team's organisation.
Inter started the match well, pressing their opponent aggressively, but were then caught in an excellent defensive setup by Brugge. Leko's initial 4-5-1 formation was actually a dynamic 4-2-3-1, with numerous midfielders involved in the attack. Hugo Vetlesen was highly mobile, joining the attack at the right moment, while Hans Vanaken lurked behind Tresoldi, linking up the play. These movements posed problems for Inter, who were unable to establish control over the game.
