Welsh flanker Jac Morgan has stated that his move to Gloucester has added an attacking dimension to his game. The 26-year-old will represent his country against Japan in the Nations Championship on Saturday at 16:40 GMT.
Morgan moved from the Ospreys to Gloucester during the summer alongside Dewi Lake. In the Premiership, he leads the league in turnovers gained, is second in completed tackles and is among the top five in rucks. He has broken through 18 defensive players, leads the league with 102 metres in contact, and has scored two tries. Gloucester is currently second in the Premiership.
"Attack was a big focus for the team," Morgan said, adding that he had the opportunity to be more involved and carry the ball. He thanked the coaches and other players.
Morgan's performances for the Ospreys led to him earning two caps for the British and Irish Lions in Australia last year. He continued to grow at Kingsholm, and now wants to replicate that form at test level. He said he went to the new club to continue progressing as a player.
Last November, Morgan suffered a dislocated shoulder while scoring a try against Argentina in the first match of Steve Tandy's tenure. He missed the wins against Japan and Italy, and returned for the win against Fiji which started the Nations Championship. The victory at Cardiff City Stadium was followed by disappointments in Argentina and South Africa.
In the countdown to the 2027 World Cup, Wales must show signs of progress against Japan, New Zealand, Australia and one other undetermined southern hemisphere opponent. "With Steve and the coaches we have been together for a year," Morgan said, highlighting that they were a bit disappointed with how things went last summer and that they want to show they are progressing and developing. He added that there is a great feeling about the way the lads have come into camp over the past few weeks, and he hopes they will provide a few big performances.
