Poreč handball players have officially begun preparations for the upcoming season in the Paket24 Premier League. The squad assembled at Veli Jož on 3 August, where they will work under the guidance of coach Ilija Lovrinović for just over a month before the competition begins in September. The main objective of the preparations is a return to the top six clubs in the country.
Last season saw Poreč finish seventh in the championship, a significant step back compared to previous results. This was the first season since 2016/17 that Poreč played in the relegation league, following a string of years spent among the six best Croatian clubs. The title league slipped away by just one point, indicating an extremely tight battle at the top of the table.
During the summer transfer window, there were no major reshuffles in the squad, although several key players departed. From Poreč, centre back Antonio Ljubić, Marko Bajan, Bruno Ćopić, and Erik Klobučić left the club. Additionally, long-serving player Mirko Petr departed.
Despite the departures of these players, the management and coaching staff are focused on the rapid integration of the remaining squad. Preparations have begun with a clear ambition to correct last season's result and secure a place at the top of the table. The Paket24 Premier League season officially begins in September, and Poreč will fight for a return to the pinnacle of Croatian handball.
