Ahead of the new Women's Super League (WSL) season, Tottenham has taken significant steps to consolidate its position in the elite competition. The club used the summer transfer window to systematically strengthen the squad, with the aim of achieving higher league positions after finishing fifth last season.
In a bid to improve quality, Tottenham broke its own club record for a player signing fee this season. Among the most significant arrivals is French defender Alice Sombath, who joined from Lyon. She is joined by forwards Shekiera Martinez and Kirsty Hanson, bolstering the attacking options.
The coaching staff and defensive line have also received reinforcements. Caitlin Dijkstra and Victoria Pelova have arrived at the club, while Selma Panengstuen has strengthened the goalkeeping position. In addition to new signings, the club has increased its staff numbers and improved training facilities. Tottenham now has its own base at the Hotspur Way training centre, a significant infrastructural step for the development of women's football within the club.
This will be the seventh season for Tottenham Women in the top tier of English football. Despite investments in the current squad and infrastructure, the club faces administrative challenges. Plans to build a new academy for women and girls are currently blocked in court, which could have long-term implications for the development of young talent within the organisation.
